What is Hifz ul Quran?

The Honour of Memorizing the Complete Quran Online

Hifz ul Quran — the complete memorization of the Holy Quran — is one of the most honoured acts of worship in Islam. A person who memorizes the Quran earns the title of Hafiz and carries the Book of Allah in their heart for life.

Our online Hifz ul Quran program replicates the structure of a traditional madrasah, delivered through one-on-one live sessions. Every lesson uses the three-part daily revision system — sabaq, sabqi and manzil — that has produced huffaz for centuries.

"It will be said to the companion of the Quran: Recite and rise in rank. Recite as you used to recite in the world, for your rank will be at the last verse you memorize."
— Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

Whether your child is beginning at age 6 or you are an adult committing to this journey for the first time, our teachers adapt the program's pace to you — with daily accountability, clear milestones and compassionate guidance every step of the way.

Prerequisite: You Must Be Able to Read the Quran Before Memorizing It

Hifz ul Quran is memorization by heart — not the learning of how to read it. To begin, students must already be able to recite the Quran fluently from the Mushaf with correct basic tajweed. Students who have not yet reached this level should start with Nazra & Qaida first. If you are unsure, the free trial class includes an honest assessment.

The Method

Sabaq, Sabqi & Manzil — The Science of Retention

Every online Hifz session is built around this three-part revision system — the same method used in traditional madrasahs for centuries.

01

Sabaq

سبق

The new portion — typically 3-10 ayat — memorized fresh in today's lesson. The teacher recites first, the student repeats, and the lesson continues until the new verses are committed to memory correctly and with proper tajweed.

02

Sabqi

سبقی

Recent memorization from the past 7 to 15 days, recited from memory to the teacher. This is the critical step that prevents drift and keeps fresh memorization strong.

03

Manzil

منزل

The older completed portions of the Quran, divided into seven parts and cycled daily. Manzil ensures that what was memorized months ago remains as solid as what was learned last week.

Program Stages

What the Online Hifz Program Covers

From the first day of memorization to the completion of the 30th juz — a structured journey with clear milestones at every stage.

Stage 1 — Assessment

Level Assessment & Personal Plan

Every student begins with a thorough assessment of existing memorization, tajweed accuracy and Quran fluency. A personalised memorization plan is then designed: daily sabaq targets, session frequency and milestone checkpoints.

Free trial session

Stage 2 — Juz Amma & Short Surahs

Starting with Juz 30

Most students begin by memorizing Juz Amma. These shorter, frequently recited surahs build confidence and establish the daily sabaq and sabqi rhythm before longer juz are attempted.

3-6 months

Stage 3 — Progressive Hifz

Memorizing Juz by Juz

The student works through the remaining 29 juz systematically. Daily targets are calibrated to capacity, and sabaq, sabqi and manzil are tracked lesson by lesson.

2-5 years

Stage 4 — Dour & Revision

Full Quran Revision (Dour)

Once the entire Quran is memorized, a focused revision period solidifies all 30 juz together until the hafiz can present the complete Quran fluently from memory.

6-12 months

Completion

Khatm & Certification

Upon successful completion, the student is awarded a Nūr Academy Hifz completion certificate, a personal du'a from the teacher and a recommendation for advanced studies.

Milestone event

Integrated Throughout

Tajweed Within Hifz

Correct tajweed is embedded into every sabaq from the first day. Teachers correct pronunciation, makharij and tajweed rules in real time so memorization is beautiful and accurate.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything families want to know before starting online Hifz.

Can you really memorize the Quran online?

Yes — online Hifz ul Quran is highly effective when done one-on-one with a qualified hafiz teacher. The teacher listens to new memorization, reviews recent lessons and tests older portions through live video.

What age is best for Hifz ul Quran?

The traditional starting age is 6-10 years, when memory is at its most receptive. Teenagers and adults also successfully complete Hifz online with consistency and a structured revision system.

What is sabaq, sabqi and manzil in a Hifz class?

Sabaq is the new portion memorized today. Sabqi is recent memorization from the past week or two. Manzil is older memorized Quran reviewed on a rotating cycle so nothing is forgotten.

How long does it take to memorize the Quran online?

With consistent daily lessons, children typically complete Hifz in 3-5 years. Motivated teenagers can complete it in 2-3 years. Dedicated adults typically take 3-6 years depending on frequency and capacity.

Does my child need to know Tajweed before starting Hifz?

Yes — the ability to recite the Quran fluently from the Mushaf with correct basic tajweed is the essential prerequisite. Students who have not reached this level should begin with Nazra & Qaida first. View Nazra & Qaida.

How many lessons per week does Hifz require?

For children, we recommend 5-6 sessions per week to maintain the daily rhythm. Teenagers typically manage 4-5 sessions around school. Adults often start with 3-4 sessions and adjust as the routine develops.

Is Hifz Quran for adults realistic?

Absolutely. Adult memory works differently, but with smaller daily sabaq, frequent sabqi revision and consistent manzil, adults memorize the Quran successfully.
